The Grenada Chocolate Company, set up in 1999 as the first “Tree to Bar” chocolate company in 100 years to keep all of proceeds of chocolate production in the village where it was grown, Hermitage, St. Patrick’s, Grenada. The company, which is a co-operative of farmers and makers, has a chocolate factory is located in the groves and surrounded by pristine rainforest using the fresh beans straight from the groves. The cocoa is processed in small batches for maximum control allowing for the most complex phenolic profile from the beans to be achieved. The Grenada Chocolate company pays its growers 65% more than the local price for their beans which are grown organically.
This is very special chocolate to be savoured, considered and maybe challenged like a good wine, good cheese, good beer or a good loaf. Included in the descriptions of each are the tasting notes of renowned chocolatier Chantal Coady.
