The Brød & Taylor Baking Shell (Batard) makes baking crusty artisan loaves simple and reliable. Designed to trap steam and retain heat, it creates the ideal environment for bread to rise fully with a crisp, crackling crust – all without the need to preheat a heavy cast iron pot.

Lightweight and easy to handle, the oval Baking Shell or cloche is placed directly over your dough on a flat baking surface in your oven. Heat transfers quickly through the aluminium, and steam is held inside during the crucial first half of the bake. For best results, lift the shell off halfway through to finish baking the loaf uncovered.

Unlike traditional cast iron vessels, there’s no need to wrestle with a scorching-hot pot – just effortless, professional results every time. The shell can also be used as a simple cover to help keep bread fresh on a worktop or cutting board.
