Baking expert, Vanessa Kimbell says, "I use rapeseed oil when I bake my bread. I use a drop on my work surface to stop the dough from sticking and a small drop on my hands, which stops me from sticking to the dough. I always use a good tablespoon in my baking tins, to stop my bread from sticking, and it has the advantage of giving your bread a lovely crunchy bottom. Of course any oil can be used to do this, however rapeseed oil has a higher smoke point than olive oil, which is very useful in bread making and Rapeseed oil is not like other vegetable oils. It’s far healthier as it has a high level of both omega 3, 6 and 9 oils, (higher than olive oil). These essential fatty acids are found in ‘good oils’ and are essential for us to function. Omega 3 helps form the building blocks for both our brain and eye tissue development, which is highly important to our health as we age. Omega 6 can be found in several food sources, however it is much harder to include omega 3 in our diet.
