Coarse “Sel Marin” or Grey Sea Salt, available in various pack sizes, is a chef’s most valuable cooking salt. The Grey Sea Salt is harvested in the early summer mornings from the bottom of clay lined salt marches.
The clay lining of the salt beds, unique to the Island of Ré, is rich in natural mineral nutrients. Traditional method of cultivation and harvesting infuses the salt with this clay, which gives its light grey colour and an abundance of calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, silica hydride, a unique antioxidant, and traces of natural iodine.
