Assistant Baker and Apprentice Baker for Bedwyn Village Bakery

We are David and Jackie Snell and we took over the running of Bedwyn Village Bakery in February 2014.  Previous owners Gordon and Lesley Merritt owned and ran the bakery for over 30 years. Although they have now both retired, Gordon and Lesley still live in the village, so we have a lot to live up to!

Having lived and worked in the village ourselves for the last 15 years and seeing the excitement around ‘Real Bread’ these days, we wanted to build on Gordon and Lesley’s good work and make Bedwyn Village Bakery even better!

We plan to keep the traditional breads we already bake and sell, including the delicious Bedwyn Lardy Cake and the selection of traditional sweets in jars (hugely popular with local children) and we want to start introducing other breads like Sourdoughs, Rye Breads and other speciality and ‘guest’ breads. Not long now before you can buy warm, freshly baked croissants and french baguettes as a treat on Saturdays – and we may even deliver perhaps!



  • We have an immediate opening for a baker at our small but rapidly growing rural artisan bakery.  Our newly appointed artisan baker will be leading product development, taking us to the next phase of the business. This post is to work under his direction and leadership.Further training opportunities will be provided as we want to keep our bakers ahead of the game and leading from the front.
  • Our second  baker needs to be numerate, fit and well, energetic, enthusiastic, with an absolute desire to bake the best quality bread  with enormous pride in their work, a passion for bread and baking, and an interest in contemporary food developments.

Expected hours
  • 40 hours a week, shift pattern to be confirmed
Qualifications Required   
  • None but experience is a definite plus but we will consider less experienced bakers who show ambition and commitment.


Personal Qualities

  • The kitchen will be a "live" baking experience, with a small retail operation co existing in the same premises - we will actively encourage customer engagement and the baking team must be prepared to talk about their art on a daily basis.
  • We are looking for swift expansion and the role has excellent development potential.
  • You will require your own transport to get to and from the bakery because of the hours involved.

  • Be energetic, self motivated and dedicated to doing the best job they can
  • At all times conduct themselves in a professional manner and be presentable
  • Be on time for their shifts
  • Speak English fluently
