Head Baker for Olivia's Artisan Foods


Olivia’s Artisan Foods Limited is looking for Head Baker.  This key role will support the organisation as we move to the next very exciting phase of developing our brand across the north east of England and North Yorkshire and move to our new Food Distribution Centre.

 

Description: 

Our business started in Darlington in September 2012 and we have created a number of bakery / cafes which have become a popular destinations for people who enjoy high quality food and service. Earlier this year the Company featured on the ITV Series Britain’s Best Bakery. Every night we bake fresh artisan bread and create a range of delicious snacks and light lunches in our central bakery and kitchen which are delivered fresh every morning to our bakery / cafes.  The enterprise also supports a local charity, Clervaux Trust providing much needed work experience for young people with developmental delay, helping them to build their confidence and positively contribute to the local community.  
Job Description:    Reporting to the Head of Food the main purpose of this role is to develop and manage our Bakery and its team of staff.

To be successful in this role you will need:

To be driven, professional, highly organised with strong leadership and interpersonal skills. You will also need to be creative with good commercial acumen to ensure the future growth and development of the business. A proactive leader with strong communication is essential in maintaining high standards within the Bakery and understanding each of the Sites needs.  The ability to work under pressure and be able to work flexible hours, including night shift is critical.  This is an exciting opportunity for somebody who wants to play a key role in an ambitious and ethically minded company.

Duties:

  • To line manage the Bakers, providing coaching, development, training and motivation, encouraging creativity and new ideas.
  • To work with branch managers on ideas and community requirements
  • Achieve net profit targets, through the dynamic management of sales and the effective control of costs
  • Build effective working relationships with both internal employees and external customers to develop, implement and analyse effective business strategies and market place opportunities
  • Ensure the quality of Artisan Bread is kept to a very high standard
  • Assist in the delivery of Bread Making Courses, as and when required
  • Develop good relationships with suppliers ensuring best price and quality, trying to use local and organic where practical
  • Take responsibility for all food hygiene and health and safety issues within the bakery
  • Assist in the delivery of therapeutic activity and training of Clervaux Trust students in the bakery.
  • To manage costs in line with budgets, current turnover and agreed metrics and provide effective waste management to ensure that the Bakery contributes to the achievement of Olivia's gross profit targets
  • Ensure all operational aspects are managed to the highest standard
  • Ensure statutory compliance and all legal obligations are adhered to

Qualifications Required   
  • Permitted to work in the UK (a valid EU work permit or ID is required)

Remuneration
