New in – pretty useful


From the figures all over the BBC this morning, it is clear that I am not the only one to have watched Nadia win the Great British Bake Off this year. While we supplied some of the equipment used in the series Vanessa has pointed out that we need to keep more pretty things, not just the purely useful pieces of equipment that otherwise we at BakeryBits are prone to look for, much of which was on display during the programmes.

Vanessa is right of course and so we have started to keep more products that are not only highly functional but attractive too, starting with a multitude of colourful mixing bowls. I prefer the pale blue one and unsurprisingly, Vanessa loves the red one. The yellow one is cheery, the black one is smart and the grey is classic. The pink ones? Well, if like me you have young daughters, you will know.

While Radio 4 was immersing itself in GBBO analysis, suggesting yesterday morning that The Tent is a metaphor for Great Britain, I took a much less deep and meaningful approach and just enjoyed watching the progress of the contestants. The World Bread Awards is similar although both amateur and professionals get a chance to win a coveted prize. I couldn’t attend this year but Vanessa was there to award the prize for the Best Home Baker of Sourdough. You can see the list of winners here.

GBBO and WBA are over for another year but the weather is closing in marking the start of the baking season. Why not try to win one of our colourful bowls? New Measuring Spoons

We have some superb new measuring spoon sets. The ceramic spoons are a pretty and practical addition to any kitchen with their chip resistant finish and traditional cane colouring. They are connected together by a link chain so that you can find them easily but separate if needed. From ¼tsp up to 1tbsp, they are very handy around the kitchen for almost everything you make.

Many bakers will also want to add our range of malt flours to their dough and you really must use these precise measuring spoons for diax and the malted barley flours as well as salt – so all in all they are very useful and versatile tools for any baker!
