This large baking stone enables you to simulate a wood-fired oven in your kitchen. Microscopic pores in the thick fire clay absorb moisture from the dough and evenly distribute heat, giving an even oven-spring to breads and crispness to pizza bases. It is designed for both gas and electric ovens as well as Aga-style ranges and properly cared for, your baking stone will never need to be replaced.
The 33cm diameter, 23mm thick stones are made from refractory firebrick clay, pressed at 100 tonnes, fired at over 1000°C and weighs 5kg to form a robust and long-lasting stone, high in heat retention and seasoning with use.
To use the stone, simply place in a cold oven, and allow to warm with the oven. The stone needs no preparation and may be used as soon as hot. Breads and pizza do not stick to the stone which wicks away some of the dough's moisture, simulating the action of a bread oven's brick hearth, giving an excellent, crisp base.
