Matt Waite Pottery

Hand-thrown pottery for bakers
Matt Waite Pottery brings together beauty, craft and everyday usefulness. Handmade in Wiltshire, these stoneware pieces are created for bakers who want tools that are practical to use, pleasing to hold and lovely enough to leave on the worktop.
Matt studied ceramics in Bristol, worked in potteries in Bath and the Hebrides and set up his workshop at Stowford Manor Farm in Wiltshire in 2001. He throws with Cornish stoneware clay and fires his pots to around 1300°C, with flame in the kiln giving the clay its warm, toasted finish.
Made by hand, made to be used
For BakeryBits, Matt makes hand-thrown pieces such as our sourdough starter pot and batter bowl. Each one is designed for real baking use, but also has the quiet individuality of handmade studio pottery. Shape, glaze and size can vary slightly from piece to piece, which is part of their character.
The pots are made from robust stoneware and finished with glazes mixed and fired by Matt. They make thoughtful gifts for bakers, sourdough makers and anyone who enjoys using kitchen tools with a human story behind them.
Caring for handmade stoneware
We recommend hand washing to keep these pieces looking their best. They can be washed in a dishwasher, ideally on the top rack, but handmade glazed stoneware is better treated gently and repeated dishwasher use may increase the risk of glaze crazing or cracking over time.
