This handmade BakeryBits batter bowl is hand-thrown for us by Matt Waite Pottery, using Cornish stoneware clay. It is glazed inside in a soft duck egg blue and left plain on the outside, giving it a tactile, natural feel that is lovely to hold and pleasing to use.
The bowl is designed for real kitchen use as well as good looks. Use it for pancake batter, sourdough starter, sauces, cream, melted butter, small mixes and anything that benefits from a proper pouring spout. The shape sits comfortably in the hand, while the spout makes it easy to pour liquids and batters more neatly.
Each bowl is made by hand in small batches, so slight variations in size, shape and glaze are part of its character. It comfortably holds around 850ml and is supplied in a bespoke BakeryBits gift box, making it a thoughtful present for bakers, cooks and sourdough makers.
Matt Waite studied ceramics in Bristol, worked in potteries in Bath and the Hebrides and set up his Wiltshire workshop in 2001. He throws with Cornish stoneware clay and fires his pots to around 1300°C, creating robust stoneware pieces with warmth, character and everyday usefulness.
Care: We recommend hand washing to keep the bowl looking its best. It can be washed in a dishwasher, ideally on the top rack, but handmade glazed stoneware is better treated gently and repeated dishwasher use may increase the risk of glaze crazing or cracking over time.
